Wars of OZ, Lion

The Cowardly Lion.

Ok so there are 2 types of animals in OZ. There are animals, your regular dogs, pigs, and such. They are pets, work animals, wild animals. Then you have Animals (yes taking some things from Wicked). These are people that are born into tribes; each tribe worships the old gods. The old gods were animals. The tribes when born are regular newborns. Just as they are born an animal skull is placed on the face and it is fused with their skin. As the child grows the skull also grows fur, skin or hair depending on what Animal they are.


The lion was a warrior in his tribe. The Animals were on the Generals side during the Great War. The Lion was one of his greatest warriors. But during the war the witches cursed some of the Animals and they turned sides. The tribe of Lions was forced to attack and kill their own tribe. The Cowardly Lion was forced to kill his own family as he defended against his tribe. There was no reverse to this curse so he was forced to slaughter the rest of the tribe to end the curse.

At the end of the war he was asked to join a raid on rock village. He could not and was stripped of his mane and rank. He was given the name Cowardly and he was left stranded at the village. He has since been roaming the land taking any and all kind of work, but not once raising a hand for violence.

So here are some designs I have come up with for OZ.

It is my take on….of course The Wizard of OZ.

Dorothy opens her door and see’s the witch crushed under her porch. But instead of silver slippers (yes I go to the books not the movie). She is left with 2 pieces of the witch’s magical armor.

She still wants to go home, but is now enlisted in the Witch War. She is on a march to get to The General of Oz. If she can and deliver the armor, Glenda will take her home.

On her journey she will run across all manner of people, animals, and places of OZ.

The concept as I see it would be in line with JLU, in terms of art, design and such. It would be a half hour dark animated show. War would dominate the show, but the beats of it would be the characters and how the cope with this, ala band of brothers.
